It is also implied that the Earth Portal Master can travel freely with their own portal at the end of Ring of Heroes with no ill effects.

After the shut down, any subsequent Skylanders games with newer wireless portals no longer has a USB port on them. Only exception being Trap Team 3DS which sometimes came with the older portal instead. According to Glumshanks in Skylanders: Giants, Portal Masters should not use the Portal of Power on themselves, as it will cause them extreme pain when transporting between realms, and electrical discharges that go on for some time. However, Kaos' Mom appears unaffected despite using it on herself several times. Playing the Game In terms of gameplay, it's pretty basic Skylanders. It's a simple third-person platformer with basic brawling and shooting action depending on your Skylander's powers, with some light puzzle solving and plenty of hidden areas and items. If you haven't played a Skylanders game, it's mostly comparable to the LEGO games. It's fun, accessible, and kid-friendly. I made an air elemental Sentinel named Vapor Waif who fights with a bladed staff (double-ended trident) and a magic elemental Sorcerer named Dan Castmeme who tosses magical energy bolts from a distance. Vapor Waif's close combat brawling is more direct and active than Dan Castememe's magic, but the magic provides more ranged options. The older 3DS portal can connect to on any platform through USB connection with the exception of Xbox and mobile.

Figures that were released for the Swap Force game will work in Swap Force and later games, but not necessarily in Spyro's Adventure or Giants, which both came before Swap Force. There are 3 additional figures from Skylanders Imaginators that do not have these octagonal platforms. You can change almost any of your customization options for your Skylander at any time, with two major exceptions. Firstly, you obviously can't change your Skylander's element so that it's different from the Imaginite Creation Crystal element it's stored in. Secondly, and more troubling, you can't change your Skylander's combat class. Once you choose how your Skylander fights, it's permanent. It can look and sound any way you want, but it will only fight using that specific weapon type. The shape of the platform may be easiest to discern by looking at the figure from underneath. They are larger platforms than the average Skylanders figure has from earlier entries in the franchise. If there is a thin, clear, transparent plastic base layer on the underside, and if the part that your figure is standing on is gold colored rather than the usual colors for the variety of elements, then it is a figure from the special line known as "Eon's Elites" and it does not belong to any one particular Skylanders game. SuperChargers was the first to break this rule, with its figures only being compatible with SuperChargers (and the later game Imaginators) despite having figures of some of the same characters from earlier games.
