Hello Yellow - 80 Books to Help Children Nurture Good Mental Health and Support With Anxiety and Wellbeing - Example 2: Nesryn. I really liked this character, she gave me some kind of Katniss Everdeen vibe. the thing is she was only in the series for Tower of Dawn and Kingdom of Ash I think. Whilst some sexual content focusing on the objectification of women is touched on at the end, much of the deeper connotations are lost to the less experienced - and pretending these elements aren't an intrinsic part of the very fabric of society is naïve and you do your teenage daughter a disservice by pretending otherwise. Does your 12 year old need to be aware of these issues, no not yet probably. Is it terrible if they are, also no. If they weren't ready for the material - they wouldn't be able to proceed.

Assassin’s Blade | Sarah J. Maas The Assassin’s Blade | Sarah J. Maas

The series is great in the first book and the prequel, I didn't particularly enjoy the second book, but in the third book, heir of fire, the plot just changes entirely. From badass assassin fighting for her freedom to faerie queen fighting against evil. I didn't really mind the switch cuz I'm into that stuff but I know a lot of people hated that the dynamic changed so much, so beware of that. Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Sex, Romance & Nudity in your kid's entertainment guide. Get started Close These answers aren’t very helpful. “Maturity” is not a quality that is required to read these books. There really isn’t such a thing as a “mature” 12 year old. Even “mature for their age” is misleading language. A person can only compare books, or really anything in life, to what they’ve already experienced. If that experience has been restricted to modern YA novels this book might be well received if the reader in question is inclined to enjoy the fantasy genre and violence. Some readers might be disappointed that romance isn’t a more integral part of the books. There are some really great romance adventure novels out there, but I guess that’s what I like about a lot of the fantasy novels in the YA genre. The romance is there, but it isn’t more important than the adventure and challenges (I’m thinking of the Renegade series by Marissa Meyer, the Eona/Eon books by Alison Goodman, Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard and others). In a land without magic, an assassin is summoned to the castle. She has no love for the vicious king who rules from his throne of glass, but she has not come to kill him. She has come to win her freedom. If she defeats twenty-three murderers, thieves, and warriors in a competition, she will be released from prison to serve as the King’s Champion. In books one and two, there is a little bit of physical stuff going on between characters, but not tons. In book 4, the physical tension between several pairs of characters starts to ramp up and in book five, there is a fairly specific/graphic description of intimate relations. Just so you know what to expect, I am going to talk about this series and my experiences reading it, and what I think about it. However, I am going to try to avoid spoiling the books for you if you’ve never read the series, FYI. For teens or younger readers, I do hesitate a bit. Yes, these books are technically in the YA genre. But there is a lot of fighting, a lot of sword swinging and killing going on in these books.

Throne of Glass: Throne of Glass, Book 1 - Common Sense Media

Popular author Maggie Stiefvater is in top form in what is arguably her most complex and ambitious book to date, and the first in a magical new series.

My mom said that these books are downright. 'pornographic'. They ARE NOT! (they do have a few cringe love scenes but not very descriptive) Its not like parents can hide this from kids anyway. They always find a way. SO what are they gonna do, Protect us forever.

A prequel to the New York Times bestselling Throne of Glass, this collection of five novellas explores the history of this cunning assassin and her enthralling-and deadly-world. How do you feel about stories where the protagonist is forced to choose among various options, all of them bad? Was someone you know ever in that position? What did they do? How did they decide? As an adult who has read a lot of romance novels, it wasn’t anything out of the ordinary or even that explicit. But if you are a parent reviewing a series for your child who is younger, this might not be the series for you if you are wanting to keep your child from reading books that contain descriptions of adult activities. Families can talk about new stories based on old, traditional tales, as with this reinvention of Beauty and the Beast. Do you like getting creative with existing material? Do you think sometimes it goes too far? How? The Crown Prince will provoke her. The Captain of the Guard will protect her. And a princess from a faraway country will befriend her. But something rotten dwells in the castle, and it’s there to kill. When her competitors start dying mysteriously, one by one, Celaena’s fight for freedom becomes a fight for survival-and a desperate quest to root out the evil before it destroys her world.Celaena Sardothien is her kingdom’s most feared assassin. Though she works for the powerful Assassin’s Guild and its scheming master, Arobynn Hamel, she yields to no one and trusts only her fellow killer-for-hire, Sam. But when Arobynn dispatches her on missions that take her from remote islands to hostile deserts, Celaena finds herself acting independently of his wishes and questioning her own allegiance. No, it’s not. It’s very violent and chances are they are going to want to read more books in the series. It depends on their maturity but I wouldn’t want my 10 year old sibling to read this. As children they will break down everything they read and won’t stop thinking about it. Unless they have a clear idea on what sex and violence is like, wait a bit to read. There are still some gore filled scenes. Probably wouldn’t want a child to be reading of people getting their heads chopped off very vividly. Yes, there is. But it is not a huge focus of the books and is not terribly integral to the plot. Without giving anything away, while there is some romancy type stuff in the first 2 books, most of those books are focused on the mail character making her way through all of her various challenges. The relationship type stuff is a bit of an afterthought. The first few books aren't nearly as graphic as the last few books if I recall. I read this later in life, but throughout the entirety it felt very young adult and less mature than some of the content I prefer. I think book five is where the sex scenes become more detailed, but in remembering my own experiences I was definitely reading adult material by the time I was a freshman in High School. I only remember a few series really resonating with me in Middle School around 7th and 8th grade and then I jumped from Harry Potter grade material into Game of Thrones and eventually Steven Erikson before I graduated. Multiple uses of crude language, including "s--t," "balls," "damn," and "hell," most often as "go to hell."

There isn't sex, swearing or inappropriate content if that's what you're concerned about. There is some mentioning about periods and there is some violence (although it isn't that descriptive). Like Cinderella's love story and the action and competition of The Hunger Games ... then this is the spectacular book for you! This book is going to be HUGE Dark Readers

This is where it reeeally depends on maturity, I read this as a mature 12 year old. Was I ready for this if I was 11.... most likely not. If as a parent you aren’t ready to answer questions on why the characters took their clothes off, or as a kid you want to keep your innocence a bit longer, I wouldn’t read. But it’s really an amazing book SJM is an amazing writer. It’s up to you to decide though.
