Description

In this lovely little game players compete to create the most authentic and aesthetically pleasing quilt, which will gain you points and decide the winner! If you do not want to buy a patch, you can pass. Then you move your time token in front of your opponent’s token and a button for each space you have moved. We also like Cat Crimes, but that is more of a puzzle/game as you use clues to figure out where eat cat is sitting (and hence who “did the crime”) The scoring in Patchwork is very straight forward. Count your buttons and subtract two for every square on your board that isn’t covered by a patch. The only other thing to consider is there is a X button bonus for the first player to cover a 7×7 area of their board, but when this is scored you just count these as buttons. The Theme Works Well

If you have played the original Patchwork, then you will know how it works. The gameplay hasn’t changed in this version. So, what is Patchwork Halloween Edition exactly? Apart from being aesthetically superior, creating a quilt with no holes is good because you are more likely to get the 7x7 bonus and it’ll mean fewer minus points at the end of the game. Only the first person to complete a filled-in, hole-free seven-by-seven square earns the 7x7 bonus, which is worth 7 points. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the great quilt-off, here’s a super spooky, speedy run down. It’s simple to set up, easy to learn and more tactical and strategic than the sharpest needle in your sewing box. How many cats are alive in the boxes and how many are dead? This card game plays like Liar’s Dice with a cat-themed twist. A: It is possible, but it does not happen often. So, do not punish yourself too hard if you fail to do that! Both players have a quilt board, five buttons (this is currency) and a time token. You’ll need the rest of the buttons later so keep them at arms reach! A digital version of Patchwork was released in 2016 on Steam for PC, Mac, and Linux, and as an app on the App Store and Google Play. It was developed by DIGIDICED and published by Asmodee Digital.

There have been several "re-themes" of the game released where the game mechanics are not changed, but the artwork and design of some components have been modified to fit a new theme. Patchwork: Winter Edition was released in German in 2020. It was subsequently released in Hungarian, Polish, English (as Patchwork XMAS Edition), and Japanese. Patchwork: Americana Edition was released in 2020, and is currently only available Patchwork: Halloween Edition was released in 2021 in German, English, and Spanish. Patchwork: Valentine's Day Edition was released in 2022 in English, Spanish, and Hungarian. The one exception to this is the Halloween edition. In this version several of the patches have been "rebalanced" by having their button cost or spaces moved altered. The game ends after both time tokens reach the last space of the time board. The tokens cannot move past the last space on the board. If one player ends before the other they simply wait for the other player to end too. Navigate and get to the centre first to gain extra coins but you also lose coins if you finish and have blank spaces on your patchwork quilt! Try to leave some space for larger tiles towards the end of the game. At the start of the game you will not have enough buttons to buy the larger tiles. By the end of the game you will want them to fill in spaces but they can be awkward shapes and sizes so bear this in mind when building your grid. When you both finish it’s time to tally up points using the buttons and the special tile (if a player has completed the special tile). Deduct any spaces left on your quilt board (1 space = 2 points), and that decides your winner. In Patchwork, you are attempting to make a patchwork quilt better and more efficiently than your opponent. You begin with an empty board and 5 buttons—the game's standard currency—which may be spent on one of the 3 oddly shaped pieces that are next in the massive circle of kaleidoscope-esque pieces in the middle of the table. Each piece you take has a specific cost in buttons and time (to sew onto your quilt, of course). Each unit of time you spend moves you along the timeline board. Doing so will earn you more of that much-needed button money, or even a conveniently square shaped piece to fill the hole in the middle of your quilt ( if you're the first person there). But beware, racing along comes with a price. Other than earning buttons by skipping turns, you can also earn buttons by passing by the button symbols on the time board. Each time you pass by one of these buttons, you count the number of buttons on the patches on your quilt board and earn that many buttons.

And for people who like a little more nightmare before their Christmas, we have Patchwork Halloween addition too!Choose which side of the time board you’d like to play with and place it in the middle of the table. There is no difference between the sides, choosing a side is simply a matter of aesthetic preference. Patchwork plays fast, the instructions are fairly simple, and the game does not imply lots of strategy and deep thinking. However, doing well in Patchwork is not that easy. Many patches have peculiar shape, which is something you have to take into account while building your quilt. If it is uneven and there are blank spaces, you will lose points. You’ll notice various spaces are marked on the time board which requires the player that passes the space to respond in these ways: It's always an excellent service with brilliant products at a very competitive price - will use again! All in all this is something you need to decide on your own. The "long" story behind this is, that - when the development of the app started - Uwe suddenly had a platform where he was able to conduct a lot of playtesting easily and fast (the original intend of this was to "teach" the AI). In this process he became aware that the first leather patch statistically is coming to early. This means that in more than approx. 50% of the games, the first leather patch is not useful (as it can't fulfill it means - filling gaps - as there are no gaps at that time). Thus he decided to put the patch on a later space. However, "Patchwork" already was a much appreciated and grat game before that change and a lot of people had no issue with this "statistical flaw". And while Uwes perfectionism in his games is perfectly fine, deciding to not change the board is too.
