About this deal

Enter the Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog. Based on the manual power controlled Excellence model, this bagless cylinder cleaner adds Miele’s Cat & Dog floorhead to the tool roster. We’ve been impressed by this tool on some of Miele’s other pet-centric cleaners. Its air-powered rotating brush bar with twin rows of stiff nylon bristles are very effective for all-round carpet cleaning duties. The only place it doesn’t hold up is on furniture, it does an OK job and has a crevice tool to get into it but if you want to clean the furniture you’ll want the cat & dog powerline model.

However, the excellence has a HEPA filter that filters out any dust particles and allergens from the air leaving your room feeling fresher after you’ve vacuumed. But not only that, it has a powered rotating brush to do an even more thorough job of vacuum carpets getting up hair and dust. It’s nicely low for getting under obstacles and has a complete perimeter of castle-stepped brushes. Spreading your vacuuming power over such a big cleaning area suggests Miele is very confident in the suction power of the CX1. Adding Miele’s pet-centric rotating brush bar Cat & Dog floorhead to an already excellent tool lineup, the Blizzard CX1 Cat & Dog PowerLine is arguably the most practical, versatile and best-performing model in Miele’s bagless cleaner range. It’s still a big beast for stairs, the small bin filter is messy, and the cable could be longer – but these are all minor niggles.Add in the super-quiet operation, wheels so smooth the cleaner glides, and a wireless remote control, and the Blizzard CX1 Comfort PowerLine more than justifies its substantial price tag. Verdict

This means you’ll find that new Miele vacuums are more powerful in terms of suction than older models despite the lower power with the vortex suction system. If you’re looking for a product that completely removes your involvement in the daily clean up after your dog, iRobot’s Roomba s9+ is certainly a time-efficient option. All of the tools, the flexible hose and the steel telescopic tubes are well designed and built to last. In particular, the tubes are robust, if not light, and extend with ease thanks to a large collar that releases the clip mechanism. We found that half-extended was good for floor cleaning, with the extra length useful for high-up cobweb busting. The Total Solution Allergy has the best air filter with the all-powerful HEPA filter. It also has a parquet head which is great for delicate floors such as laminate or stone because it’s got softer bristles. But unfortunately, this model is no longer for sale. These tools make the hard-floor abilities of the EcoTeq head a little redundant – although it, too, was no slouch on our floor tile test. They lose a little of their grace in very deep-pile carpet, but each caster body has a pair of parabolic ski-like mouldings to help stop the wheels bogging down. Our carpet and hard-floor test results with this head were a replica of those achieved with the same head on the CX1 Excellence model. Simply put: superb cleaning right up to the skirting edge, with only a few heavier grains of test powder showing on the carpet after a single pass. Pictures of that test can be found here. I would have to say yes, they’ve been tested for a 20-year lifespan and although they only have a 2-year guarantee you can’t argue with that testing.
