Something that’s tough for over-ear headphone manufacturers to truly get right is finding the proper clamp and foam to wrap around your ears. Higher-end manufacturers in the space—like Sony and Bose—usually give you all the softness and comfort you’re looking for, but lower-end headphones tend to skimp here, making them less than comfortable. Update 09/22/2021: We have retested 'Multi-Device Pairing'. These headphones can connect to two devices at once by sliding the power button towards the 'Bluetooth' label on the headphones to enter pairing mode. The headphones give you an audible confirmation that you have two devices connected. However, you can only hear audio input from one device at a time. Unfortunately, you can't play audio from a console and a Bluetooth device at once. There hasn't been a change in our results.

It seems like Jabra has taken a subtler approach with the ANC on these headphones, and that makes it more capable and less uncomfortable for sensitive ears than something like Apple’s AirPods Max. To be fair, you won’t be amazed by the amount of noise cancellation, and I do think that Jabra’s “commute” vs. “office” vs. other customizable modes in the app is overselling the capabilities a bit. I spent a few days with my pair to see how they made the transition in and out of my workday.
The Jabra Sound Plus app is available for iOS and Android devices. The smartphone app has many similar settings as the Jabra Direct app with a few other options, including using the earcup microphone for calls rather than the boom arm mic. Let's say, you create an upgraded version, maybe the Evolve2+ where all those issues are fixed, I would definitely try it again. At first, it's a really great idea to have a microphone arm on this headset which can be folded or hidden while just listening to music or watching a movie. Great idea to combine business and private use-cases. But then this construction ... that can't be your answer Jabra! The arm doesn't stay in the lowest position ... it just moves a little bit upwards, what results in a slightly reduced quality. You can also adjust what some of the controls do and easily control whether ANC or transparency mode is activated. There’s a desktop option called the Jabra Direct app, which provides some of the same customization, but isn’t quite as user-friendly as the mobile one. In short, the software functionality that comes with these headphones is all there.

It’s impressive just how much battery life Jabra has managed to get in these otherwise pretty sleek headphones. It’s odd when you think about it, because while these headphones seem oriented to your desk where a charging cable is within reach, you’ll rarely need that charging cable. But, because the headphones need to be ready to use at a moment’s notice for phone calls, it does make sense. While most premium headphones in the price point do feel sleek and premium, there’s something about the look of the Evole2 85 that just fits better into a professional environment. But some of that is related to the software and headset integration. Having UC and Microsoft Teams certifications come with some firmware hurdles and licensing costs. Microphone noise canceling -> There was so much noise while I was calling (2 kids playing loud in the room next to me and nothing was transferred into my calls. Awesome job! I am a bit disappointed the charging cradle comes at a surcharge, because these headphones are already so expensive and the use case of plopping them down on your desk to charge makes so much sense.Most of my clients also call my cellphone, rather than my desk phone and as we continue remote work we may move the company to call service through the Microsoft Teams solution. Right now, I pair my Surface Pro 6 with Jabra Direct and my primary cellphone with Sound Plus to the Evolve2 85. Whether calls come through Teams or my cellphone, one headset is there and ready to help me respond. While I enjoy the Sony headset for focused music listening experiences, the Jabra Evolve2 85 is the nearly perfect headset for the work week. The Sony and Bose models are decent for personal calls, but for business calls I want the highest quality mics for clear communications. I also spend all day on Microsoft Teams so this integration on the headset is invaluable. The comparison for headsets in this space is tough. Many of the office-designated headsets have smaller drivers and aren’t particularly good at music, while larger headsets with boom microphones tend to be flashy and more gaming oriented. Later the day in a 1hr meeting, it was even worse than yesterday. I had to change the headset during the meeting, because of disturbing noises, robot voice and some voice interruptions/dropouts. It's small, thin and feels really fragile. It gives the impression as if it already breaks down from just looking at it. I would prefer a better microphone which is longer and can be adjusted to my needs even if it doesn't win a design award. (e.g. Gaming Headsets like Beyerdynamic MMX300, Steelseries Arctis Pro Wireless, Corsair Virtuoso RGB Wireless SE, etc.)
