About this deal

Though the title would have you thinking this story is centered on one woman, it actually follows three separate women during the time of the Trojan War. Clytemnestra, wife of Agamemnon and mother of Elektra, was by far my favorite of the storylines. I was instantly swept up in her narrative and felt sympathy and heartbreak for her plight. We also follow Cassandra, a princess of Troy with the gift of foresight but the curse that none would believe her. While she isn't a big character in mythology, her story is definitely interesting. Jennifer Saint’s Ariadne was featured in our best books of 2021 list and within just a few chapters of Elektra, it’s clear that the author’s follow-up book will be equally lauded and adored. Set in the same world of Greek mythology but centred on different characters, Elektra is the story of three women in ancient Greece: Clytemnestra – the oft overlooked sister of Helen of Troy and the wife of Agamemnon; Cassandra – the cursed Princess of Troy trapped in a besieged city, and Elektra, Clytemnestra’s youngest daughter, who finds herself torn between her father’s bloodlust and her mother’s vengeance.

Although she loves her beautiful forest home, Atalanta yearns for adventure. When Artemis offers her the chance to fight in her name alongside the Argonauts, the fiercest band of warriors the world has ever seen, Atalanta seizes it. The Argonauts' quest for the Golden Fleece is filled with impossible challenges, but Atalanta proves herself equal to the men she fights alongside. As she is swept into a passionate affair, in defiance of Artemis's warning, she begins to question the goddess's true intentions. Can Atalanta carve out her own legendary place in a world of men, while staying true to her heart? A girl was born, and the King exposed her on the mountain, a mother bear raised her, she grew strong on bear milk and learned to wrestle with bear siblings, then Artemis came for her, and gave her to the nymphs to raise her in the forest of Arcadia. She got strong, fast, and fearless, her name is Atalanta. The story telling flows and the author did really well to breathe life into centuries old myths and legends that makes the reader really connected with the story. Then there is a but… His head turned at the same moment, and our eyes met. I saw his surprise and confusion, a mirror of mine. Our father leaped up, overjoyed that Odysseus had saved his triumphant day from almost certain disaster. “I will sacrifice my finest horse!” he declared. “And you shall all make your promise to the gods upon its blood.”Not entirely.” Helen waved away the girls around her and leaned in confidentially. I felt a little thrill. “They came here from Calydon, you know.” I shook my head, as though I could dislodge the idea altogether. It would all change, even more so. A hundred men had come to marry her; the next one would take Menelaus’ place in an instant. Frankenhoff, Brent (2011). Comics Buyer's Guide Presents: 100 Sexiest Women in Comics. Krause Publications. p.22. ISBN 978-1-4402-2988-6. Well its Greek mythology and for me that brings its own air of mystery, intrigue and tragedy. A sub-genre I will never tire off. Enchanting…As the women navigate their changing positions of power, they court disaster at the hands of both gods and men. Saint expertly highlights how often the women of this world pay the price for the actions of the men around them. Lovers of mythology should snap this up.”— Publishers Weekly

Elektra seemingly reappears, appearing to be corrupted by the Hand. [33] She kills, resurrects, and imprisons the vigilante Maya Lopez to use as a weapon. The New Avengers rescue Lopez who ends up stabbing Elektra to death, [34] however, her death revealed that "Elektra" is actually a Skrull in disguise. [35] Can’t you see that it just goes on, over and over? The gods demand their justice, but we suffer for it, every time.” I received a gifted copy of this book to listen to and read in exchange for an honest review via netgalley and the publishers. I shuddered. “He won’t want to kill a little boy, though, surely?” I could understand the brutal logic of it, but I couldn’t bring myself to picture the young men I’d seen in that hall plunging a sword into a weeping child.

Captivating…Saint’s mesmerizingly beautiful prose makes Ariadne a fascinating read.”— The Nerd Daily In partnership with Headline and the wonderful Siobhan Hooper we were able to evolve one of the original sketches into the cover it is today. I am super proud of the final result and I cannot wait to see it printed!”

Jennifer Garner portrayed Elektra in the films Daredevil (2003) and Elektra (2005), and will reprise the role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Deadpool 3 (2024), while Élodie Yung portrayed the character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe television series Daredevil [4] and The Defenders. [5] Publication history [ edit ] Frank Miller signing a copy of the Elektra comics series during an appearance at Midtown Comics Hoar, Peter (director); Marco Ramirez and Douglas Petrie (writer) (March 18, 2016). "A Cold Day in Hell's Kitchen". Daredevil. Season 2. Episode 13. Netflix. We are given a mountain of characters who are barely introduced until they say something or do something, which made it feel constantly as if "well if they don't matter for this scene, they don't exist" which isn't great for the reader. I feel like many events were thrown in a succession in the middle, with great scenes like harpies wolfing down on a blind prophet being fixed up in a couple paragraphs. it was both too slow and too rushed and I didn't like that at all. Every word I speak is unwelcome. My throat is raw from the words that are torn from me when I touch someone, when I look into their eyes and see the blinding white truth. My prophecies rip out my insides, but still they come, unbidden, even as I quake at the consequences.”Shadowland: Elektra, Shadowland: Daughters Of The Shadow #1-3, Shadowland: Bullseye, Shadowland: Ghost Rider and Shadowland: Spider-Man Poignant and necessary…These heroines rage at the dying of the light, refusing to go quietly into the fates that male authors like Euripides, Homer, and Aeschylus have set out for them, and though their endings remain as inevitable as always, for readers, the experience is a deeply cathartic one.” Elektra appears as a boss in the Daredevil (2003) tie-in game as a brainwashed servant of the Kingpin until Daredevil eventually frees her. An alternate version of Elektra starred in the following series set in the fictional Ultimate Marvel Universe: Elektra makes a cameo appearance in Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter as one of Apocalypse's prisoners.
