It's a steady rise of stakes that will have you on the edge of your seat wondering how this could possibly end well. Because of this busy time, and the original purpose of the text, this novella adaption he has released is leagues beneath the quality of his prior work. Cobalt White does not have a dedicated coloured text section, instead sharing the same purple text as her twin, Cobalt Purple, likely due to the difficulties of using white text. The whole thing is laughable, and I admit, it was probably made even more laughable in audiobook format.

However, Reilly manages to pack a full-sized story into this novella, which was originally a screen play that has been converted into what is a brutal thrill-ride from the first pages, to the last. However, she revealed to Cassie that he has the same weakness as herself; their muscles, bones and organs may be stronger than normal, but as her declining health has proven, their superhuman feats take a heavy toll. A very uneasy peace remains in place, and, over the years, both sides work on trying to create offspring for their respective heroes.Did the Furys' have a PR meeting where they decided murder was fine but "sex slave" instead of "whore" (or literally anything else) was more PC? Reilly is more interested in increasing stakes, fun, the high-speed action with brutal fight sequences.

Disheartened by the news of Red's defeat, Cassie laments that now only she and three of her siblings remain. As is typical of Matthew Reilly books, the pace of the book is wild, seemingly like watching an action movie. He wants to storm America, crush its monuments, and murder its people, starting with Cobalt Blue’s super-offspring. And then there’s our lead who apparently has 0 emotions despite a whole bunch of people she loves dying around her within the space of 24 hrs. Everyone has to take on the antagonist in a solo fight, even though it has been established for decades that they are powerless against him. Mostly this was just a confusing mess of flashbacks and short present-day scenes until around the 80-ish% mark when the main character finally does something.

To Cassie's astonishment, Black denounces their mother's actions serving America, believing that they should be rulers themselves. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. In the face of an overwhelming attack, one young woman - unassuming and anonymous - might be America's only hope. This is not just his worst work, but it's something that is so reprehensible that I don't even want the book in my house in case my kids pick it up and read it.

The ending was laughably stupid as the titular Cobalt Blue emerges victorious because she is the main character, I believe. Disgusted and put off by Argentov's cackling, Cassie leaves the room, where she and Trey are informed by Eason of the Fury's attack on Walters' office; while Walters never talked before being killed, a computer expert was tortured to give up Cassie's address, so the Fury now knows where to find her. Still would've made for an epic story and considering how smart we're constantly told they are, why was this not a contingency plan already in place? Cassie refuses and questions why he came at all; Black forlornly notes that she is one of the few people he feels he can have a relatively equal conversation with before departing. As with all stories like this, I think it is important not to start digging too deep into various details, and just enjoy the book for what it is, a really fun, enthralling action-packed superhero story. As the Fury, Moscow and Stalingrad arrive, Cassie leads them on a chase over the Los Angeles River, during which Trey activates two hidden JPL cutting lasers, which Stalingrad inadvertently flies through and is cut to pieces.
