If you’re still feeling lonely, you have 3 other friends blasting away with you thanks to game supporting four players! There are a ton of levels to play through with a huge variety of enemies to shoot and innocent people to save! These are usually highlighted in a green glow, and you must avoid shooting them otherwise you’ll lose one of your 3 Sheriff badges which represent your health in Mad Bullets. Not only that but each level has secondary objectives to complete such as shooting 8 incoming bullets, shooting 15 crates or boxes or shooting a certain number of enemies. To make sure it wasn’t an issue with the motion sensors in my joycons, I started poking around the Switch’s setting for test and calibration to which everything seemed to be fine, when I noticed the ‘update firmware’ option for the Joycons, something I had never considered to do since launch!

Remember, even if the Joy-Cons reticule’s start to wander or aren’t centred, all you need to do is press the B button to re-centre it or go to pause menu and re-calibrate it there. The characters are slightly animated, but they are supposed to represent wooden boards – when you shoot them, they explode in fragments, and it’s pretty effective.Upon starting your Wild West rampage, you’ll need to calibrate your Joy-Cons by shooting in the centre of the screen and the upper left-hand corner. Mad Bullets is one of the first light gun shooters I’ve played on the Nintendo Switch up to this point. These have a red glow surrounding them and enemies that are wanted criminals are usually highlighted in a light blue hue.

If you can pick this up in a sale knowing what you getting into, you will have some fun with it if you like the genre, but frustrating controls really make it hard to whole heartedly recommend. As a dusty gamer with heritage, it was quite refreshing to play Mad Bullets as it’s essentially a light gun game. You either duel weld two joy-cons and pretend your rogue cowboy or pass one them controllers to a friend or partner and have someone along for the ride.We aren’t spoilt for choice with this type of game on the Switch, let alone other platforms, but regardless, this is a title definitely worth playing, and I think it takes the mantle of light gun games for me until Sega Ages attempt a H ouse of the Dead 2 port. I must admit, a handful of times I purposely shot the odd bartender who just so happened to step out into the middle of a gunfight. This system must be updated to the latest system software and connected to the internet with automatic downloads enabled, and it must have enough storage to complete the download. The only reason I can think the developer implemented this is to stop the player spamming reload, making the game too easy, but a cool down on the reload or accuracy requirement to complete the level would have been much more effective. Mad Bullets is a Western throwback to this genre previously released on Steam and iOS but it was the port to the Switch that interested me as it claims to use the features of the Joycons to act as a pseudo light gun.

I really do miss those as you can’t really replicate this type of game on a widescreen TV accurately, but the joy-con is your next best bet, and it works quite well. As well as collecting extra points, you find a wide variety of different cut-out enemies that appear in front of you.

Instead, if an enemy shoots at you, it’s best to try to shoot the slow-moving bullet out of the sky.

A red line confirming who the villains are and that you need to shoot them, blue for wanted criminals and green for the people you aren’t supposed to hit.Oh, I forgot to mention that there are 3 locations, 60 levels, 3 minigames, about 200 missions, trendy dubstep music, fully destroyable environmental objects, all mixed in a frantic shooter. The reticle feels floaty on screen compared to the movement of the controller and suffers severely from drift.
