for a change, but past that I don't think it needed nearly half of the book to show that she had a rough childhood and a traumatic experience to cause her to kill a man in cold blood. Cordelia (Dee) garnered my greatest sympathy and I found echoes of Shakespeare in her family with her father perhaps (or not! Her closeness with her father creates a complex relationship with him, whilst he is kind and caring towards his daughter, his failure to take firm action in the face of her mother Elsbeth's more extreme behaviour makes him a weak figure, difficult to maintain respect, love and affection for.

In focusing on Crime and Punishment, The Sinner and the Saint necessarily misses revealing insights from elsewhere in Dostoevsky’s copious work. Sin was Elli's saviour , but Sin's actions are barbaric which makes Elli's fondness for him questionable.

Cora's husband going down on her = her going down on her sister = her being gone down on by Johnny while her sister dies. I felt like they could have shaved off at least 80 pages worth of irrelevant details, but I think it added to the story in some weird way. If you’ve read the first book then it’s almost a given that this one will be just as dark and good and it doesn’t disappoint.

Elli's story broke my heart, abused and manipulated since she was a child, her body and life always a tool at the mercy of men.So, whilst there are still quite a few scenes scenes of Rizzoli questioning witnesses and investigating crimes, this novel spends quite a bit of time in the autopsy room. and bc she’s an actual victim of CSA (not a listed trigger despite being heavily featured throughout and in detail) she’s been groomed (listed) to believe she deserves it. I cannot be certain that this is due to the translation, but I imagine, that due to the nature of language, the haunting atmosphere and psychological thrills were lost somewhere along the way.

Cue the drama as he throws caution, limits, and probably a few rulebooks out the window to make her his chosen one. In my defense, I had absolutely no clue the show was a book adaption until months after I watched it. It could have been condensed and parts were kinda slow and boring… a lot of weird filler smut scenes while things happened in the 'background' if that makes sense. All in all, although I slightly preferred Gerritsen’s “The Apprentice” to this novel, it’s still a really good detective thriller story 🙂 If you want a police procedural story with a bit of extra drama and horror, and a wonderfully wintery setting, then this one is certainly well worht reading.Half the time I couldn't understand if I was reading flashbacks or Cora telling lies or Cora telling the truth or someone else telling their side of the story. see i thought blakely gave no fucks about herself, but turns out ellington/elli (h) has her beat in spades LMFAO.
