The many time changes and the different points of view made this difficult to follow at times as I found myself flicking back a few pages to check when the previous chapter was set. She is a very different person in the present day and it’s intriguing trying to work out what, how and why her life has imploded. Who is trying to frame Cleo and just why is she pressing self-destruct on a life she is seemingly happy with? It’s been a while since I’ve read a full book in one day but this was literally in my hand for the whole day.

This was my first Koomson book (even though I've had one of her previous books on my shelf for the last 11 years, it's moved with me 7 times! I absolutely love in books when an author takes a fact, such as this and uses it, expands it and builds a very intriguing interesting character such as this.On the surface she appears to have it all until her past catches up with her and she has to dismantle the life she’s built for herself piece by piece before anyone finds out about her other husband. Usually, being in a library space, with the books and the atmosphere they created, acted like a shield to protect me from the excesses of being around other people.

Writing is all she’s ever wanted to do, and baking and murder stories have proved a winning combination. Not too sure how to describe this book, other than the fact that this is a unique book, a plot which I won’t forget. It’s hard to say too much because I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone who might be thinking of reading it. Dorothy Koomson always knows how to pull her readers into a storyline and keep you completely wrapped up in the protagonist’s lives. I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Headline via NetGalley and this review is my own unbiased opinion. This time it took a few pages in before I could say I enjoyed it but my goodness, literally I could not turn the pages quick enough to see what was going to happen. She just didn’t feel very realistic to me, which isn’t a problem I’ve ever had before with Koomson’s characters.

I was on the edge of my seat, biting my nail, troubled many times as certain revelations took place. Her published titles include: Tell Me Your Secret, The Brighton Mermaid, The Friend, When I Was Invisible, That Girl From Nowhere, The Flavours of Love, The Woman He Loved Before, Goodnight, Beautiful and The Chocolate Run. I had high hopes for this book after seeing all the rave reviews but ultimately it fell flat for me very early one. Mais para a frente, conforme vão surgindo algumas revelações surpreendentes, a história ganha um novo ritmo, tornando-se de leitura compulsiva. The main character was likeable and her story was heartbreaking, the story was good and really well written, as are all of Dorothy Koomson's books. There was a lot of angst and emotion in the writing and you fully felt it all - sometimes I wanted to scream at Cleo and ask her what the hell she was doing.
