As best he can, a story is built, scenes are constructed, and characters are made through footage he didn't shoot or conceive. Updated daily and in real-time, we track all high-def disc news and release dates, and review the latest disc titles. Perhaps Disney had changed their minds and wanted to stick with just having the documentary on its streaming service? I never felt immersed in the material because it comes across like some CG reinvention of the footage. It is absolutely compelling viewing watching these geniuses crafting their music, no wonder they've been hailed the greatest band ever, this just proves it to me, and the rooftop concert at the finale is awesome, it's a must for every Beatle fan.

If that was Peter Jackson’s intention – to make these sessions seem like you are actually here – then he achieved it well and it works for me. Strangely enough there was next to no word officially from either Disney who distributes this set or Apple which is The Beatles company who own this material and put the plans in motion to get director Peter Jackson to make the documentary. Okay, George left for a few days but what we see here isn’t the oft peddled disintegration of the group. The footage was shot on 16mm film over 50 years ago with the original intention of it appearing on television screens in 1969, which were around 19-20 inches at their largest at the time, and fairly low resolution. The whole thing shows just how The Beatles were really a duo (John and Paul) with George and Ringo as sidemen.

But two observations: 1) Yoko was not as quiet as Let It Be portrayed or as Peter Jackson said she was. The rooftop concert was done in multiple frames, sometimes three, where we could see street level occurrences simultaneously with the band playing. at its most active surrounds and overheads are scarcely in use, but the Atmos track does offer that sense of more total immersion that the LPCM 2. Unfortunately, the video presentation here is perhaps the worst transfer to Blu-ray in a long time - if not ever. The funny thing is I’m not one hundred percent sure it is legit but I’m thinking it more than likely is – are you confused yet?I admired the fabulous restoration work, and it was fascinating history of course, but it took me FOREVER to get through all the installments. As others have noted, a CD release of the rooftop session would be a welcome addition -- along with a video of the rooftop concert without the man on the street interviews.

I think removing the grain from the film does give the “Get Back” footage more of the look of a videotape which makes viewing these sessions come to life in way that film doesn’t.film-makers have attempted to present an accurate portrait of the events depicted and the people involved. This all culminates in their final days as a band together where a few cameras and mics are turned on to record these four musical geniuses making the magic that is their last album. The Beatles: Get Back – The Rooftop Performance Concert was screened in IMAX at the Apple Corps headquarters in London and various theaters around the U. Instead of some far away antique, for the first time these young men were real and we could completely understand the sacrifices they made and the conditions they endured. Once upon a time, before the pandemic and before this became a 6-hour series, the plan was to release Let It Be with Get Back on Blu-ray.

Whilst the packaging is a bit disappointing, as it would have been nice to have something included to read, after years of ‘will it’ ‘won’t it’ speculation, I, for one, am pleased we can now have this. That all being said, viewers have essentially four audio options on this release: a default Dolby Atmos (with a Dolby TrueHD 7. And what of the promised re-release original Let it Be movie on DVD and Blu Ray, not to mention the 18 hour director's cut mentioned several times by Peter Jackson. This site is protected by reCAPTCHA Enterprise and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. Having watched this, you’ll ask yourself whether these sessions really were as bad as we were first led to believe. I watched the Disney+ streaming version of “Get Back” way back in November and remembered being impressed with its picture quality even though on my TV the Disney+ app was glitchy and froze up frequently (one of the major strikes against streaming). Disney supports streaming its content via Disney+ and in the future that looks like it will be the only game in town folks. smaller nuances at work: how the foursome engages with one another, responds to suggestions, feels the music, and makes magic.
