Would really recommend this for people who like a weird fairytale retelling with quiet, resilient protagonist. She is definitely threatened and there is violence and threatened sexual violence but mostly, the plot neatly sidesteps any of those threats to Auren being followed through. But even though it was hard to read about her “love” for Midas, I’m very excited to see how she grows and develops later. It is obvious to us that while Midas might have harbored sweet feelings for Auren once upon a time, he now keeps her more because of her worth, what she represents, and because he’s obsessed with her, but surely not because he is in love with her. thank you so much for lending your time to be my buddy read🫶🏻 can't wait to spend this whole series with you!

He is one of the few men to see her as a person, not a saddle, He is also the only one who befriended her without any ulterior motives. To be honest, I do understand that this one is also necessary for her character development and I'm here for that but it better be amazing and good, because if it's not going really well I might flip another table istg- but to review Auren overall, she's a good and amazingly written character. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. This wasn’t always an easy story and it did manage to move me to tears some of the content here was darker than I was expecting but that was also what made this such a stunningly immersive experience I’m excited to continue on with the next book, especially with where we left things here. And when she's not being a gold-plated sex toy for the man who casually uses her love for him like a bartering chip, she's Mithridates-ing her liver with continuous doses of wine.Gild is a heart-pounding fantasy romance, and this outstanding book will keep you gripped until the very last word. But we could’ve skipped all the rape and abuse, and just mash up the first two book into one with better results. Anyway, throw in some random pirate, drop in a long thought dead Fae race, elude to the fact that she is something that its clear she is already by this point and youve got yourself a train wreck of a book that i literally rolled my eyes at at every swipe of the kindle page. You know, this probably would’ve been even better if I didn’t accidentally read 76% of the second book thinking it was the first book… but damn, coming back to the actual first book was a good idea.

Book 1 - not great, drags on a bit, nothing much happens and you'll either just get very annoyed with the main female character for being so pathetic or you'll feel really sorry for her. This is one of those series that started off phenomenal, and only gets better with every subsequent book.

We mainly use Royal Mail Tracked 48 Service for goods which weight less then 2kg, all other goods will be delivered by a Courier. Rissa, Auren's only sort-of friend is the only one I like a little, although the vibes are a little off. She starts off as vulnerable and a pushover even, but we can see how she’s slowly starting to get braver and bolder.

Now the book warns you before you start that there is violence, non-consensual sex and that it’s for an adult audience only.

But when political upheaval sees me sent across kingdoms to a future I no longer understand, everything I thought I knew about King Midas is shattered. I had similar thoughts while reading Royals of Forsyth, which was a series that rang all of my NOPE alarm bells and somehow became a guilty pleasure read. The story was exciting and given how wide and variation this universe is, I see a lot of potential for this series and it could ascend so high if it done properly. However as the book prgresses you realise things and people are not what they seem, bit by bit the layers are stripped back and you start to see people for what they really are.
