Description

I have four of the series and really like them (birds, spiders, hoverflies and this) but even the hoverfly book only covers the species that can be reliably identified without dissection - so you still need Stubbs and Falk if you are really serious. From the ever present Gulls, Fulmars and Gannets, the interest notches up a gear with Skuas, Petrels and Shearwaters. Birds continue to arrive in the UK from more northerly regions to spend the next few months here in our warmer winters, before. Apart from my trusty pair of binoculars and scope, I always carry my camera with me on my birding travels throughout the UK. A superb guide for everyone from the entomological generalist to the interested with an enquiring mind.

My target was 300 species (BOU) - find out if I made it and enjoy the 1,000's of miles from the comfort of your chair! There are too many species of birds included to mention here and whet your appetite, simply sit back and enjoy the sheer spectacle these islands can produce! A look back at the highlights of my trips to the Isles of Scilly in September / October during this period.

The same seasonal approach but with a different range of birds commonly found including yet more rarities and excitement! Using images to note the key identification criteria, in theory at least, it should be possible to correctly identify those problem birds, with some - even from a distance.

As they feed and grow young insects moult their skins often 10 or more times, with each stage known as an instar. This is the go-to guide for entomologists, naturalists, gardeners, wildlife photographers and anyone else interested in insects, whatever their level of knowledge. Over 1500 species are illustrated with information on larvae, when and where to look for each species and highlights differences between similar species. The talk is geared for a ‘general’ audience with an interest in nature and will feature in excess of 60 species (not bad for Shropshire! This amount includes seller specified domestic postage charges as well as applicable international postage, dispatch, and other fees. Latest birds: (2019) Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Rustic Bunting (2018) Grey Catbird, Little Bittern (2017) Rock Thrush, Radde's Warbler, Eastern Orphean Warbler, Wilson's Snipe, Cedar Waxwing, Cliff Swallow, Rose-breasted Grosbeak, Citrine Wagtail, Savi's Warbler, Pine Bunting, (2016) Blue Rock Thrush, Black-throated Thrush, Dusky Thrush, Dalmatian Pelican, Eastern Yellow wagtail, Red-eyed Vireo, Western Swamphen, White Stork, Icterine Warbler, Kentish Plover, (2015) Crag Martin, Olive-backed Pipit, Fea's Petrel, Gull-billed Tern, Cretzschmar's Bunting, Eastern Black-eared Wheatear, Greater Yellowlegs, Hudsonian Whimbrel, Red-throated Pipit, Hudsonian Godwit (2014) Isabelline Wheatear, Siberian Stonechat, Isabelline Shrike, Eastern Crowned Warbler, Ortolan Bunting, Blyth's Pipit, Masked Shrike, Wilson's Petrel, Cory's Shearwater, Great Shearwater, Black-winged Pratincole, Bridled Tern, Short-toed Eagle, Spectacled Warbler, Corncrake, (2013) Ivory Gull, Hume's Leaf Warbler, Baikal Teal, Red Breasted Goose, Pied Wheatear, Dusky Warbler, Grey-cheeked Thrush, Sora, Arctic Warbler, Red-breasted Flycatcher, Bluethroat, Storm Petrel, Lesser Grey Shrike, Stilt Sandpiper, Night Heron, Caspian Tern, Melodious Warbler, King Eider, Western Subalpine Warbler, Blue-winged Teal (2012) Buff-bellied Pipit, Short-billed Dowitcher, White-tailed Eagle, Rock Dove, Pacific Golden Plover, Little Swift, European Roller, Little Bunting, Common Yellowthroat, Spanish Sparrow, Dark-eyed Junco (2011) Little Auk, Western Sandpiper, Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, Squacco Heron, Solitary Sandpiper, Marsh Sandpiper, Western Bonelli's Warbler, Marsh Warbler, White-throated Robin, Capercaillie, White-billed Diver, Mealy Redpoll, Oriental (Rufous) Turtle Dove, (2010) Pied-billed Grebe, Green Heron, Red-flanked Bluetail, Pallas's Warbler, Pallid Harrier, Franklins Gull, Quail, Iberian Chiffchaff, Marmora's Warbler, White-tailed Plover, Broad-billed Sandpiper, Great Reed Warbler, Oriental Pratincole. At last I will be able to put a name to many of the species I have snapped over the years, currently lingering in my ‘unidentified’ folder. Apart from simply helping to identify insects, there is so much background information in the species accounts and elsewhere, it makes for good reading.

All talks are digital presentations and suitable for a variety of organisations: bird/wildlife groups or camera/photographic clubs. There are over 2,600 colour photographs, plus clearly labelled images and diagrams, making it a tremendous resource for the beginner, a parent with a budding nature-enthusiast, or interested wildlife gardener. Visitors to my blog or Shropshire Odonata pages cannot fail to be aware that for two or three months of the Summer, I spend a lot of time chasing insects! Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. Visitors to my blog will have noticed that many of my recent posts feature insects rather than birds. If you need more, you’ll have to move on but you should be doffing your cap to Paul Brock for guiding you so far. This code links to a sound recording of the species of interest, an app will be needed on your phone to read this. I was really excited to get this field guide, and especially like the fact that it is not just an ID guide: it also goes into the anatomy of each family, insect behaviour, what makes insects different from other animals, and so on.

This talk takes a look at what’s involved in bird photography, numerous localities and of course – plenty of interesting birds! Each is written by an expert in the subject but to the same format so that you can quickly see images of the insect/animal alongside other vital identification information including where you will find them and when.
