About this deal

Between his high-profile divorce, struggles with drinking, and grief over the death of his longtime creative partner and best friend, Ethan has slowly let himself fade into the background. I’m always wary of books that feature actors because I think anyone can attest to the distrust you feel when your occupation is featured in a story. Wilder's cinematic prose brings Grey and Ethan to life, and she sets their raw, sensitive love story against an alluring portrait of Hollywood glamour.

With this witty, seductive romance, debut author Wilder transports readers to the flashy world of Hollywood. It’s a fake relationship trope which I love but there’s not enough character development and growth here for me. the fact that it seemed somewhat realistic and mostly that it didn’t end with a contrived wedding / pregnancy. The fan’s eyes looked like they were going to pop out of her head as she nodded, fumbling through her purse for her phone and swiping the camera open. He doesn’t think this game relationship nonsense will work, but he changes his mind once he meets/talks to Grey and realizes she’s a lot more savvy than her age belies.

His best friend/writing partner died in a car crash and he can’t stop spiraling in self-doubt and guilt. Ethan’s addictions completely take over his sanity in a heartbreaking way, making this book fit into that 0. The second half of this book is so angsty and pulls on your heart, I was so in my feels for these two. I still want to read more works of the author but this time I was needing a feel good romance and the book didn’t fit with my expectations. But even though he wants to be better for her, he knows he has to work on him first, and I love seeing that in the book.

He complains a lot about how his father was awful and he wanted to be a good father for his kids, but then, they were not part of his decision to get into therapy and rehab. You know it's coming, you know that everything is going to hit the fan, so throughout most of the book, that's what I felt. So, I did just that and walked away from the month with 52,000 more words under my belt, and half of a new novel! Now, let me tell you about how this book will break your fucking heart and then put it back together.Besides the deliciously well executed fake-dating, How to Fake it in Hollywood delivers a raw, character-driven and heart-touching read. But despite withstanding the heat of the scandal of their leaked private life, the pair split after less than a year of dating. Is there an author’s note at the end filled with bullshit about how ‘real life doesn’t have happy endings’?

I really liked the first half of the book, there were so many cute scenes; for example when she twisted her ankle and he had to carry her back to the house or when he tried to make breakfast for her. And while that can be true, I didn’t think it was true of Ava Wilder’s portrayal of Hollywood or the pressures young actors feel. and discover that their feelings might be more than a PR stunt in this sexy debut for fans of Beach Read and The Unhoneymooners. The entire point of romance novels is that there is a guaranteed HEA, so, when you come across one that actually makes you doubt that, it’s worth noting, lol. Although the second half was more challenging to read and showed how messy and ugly life can be, I feel it added depth to their story. With a life-changing role on the line, she’s finally desperate enough to agree to her publicist’s scheme: fake a love affair with a disgraced Hollywood heartthrob who needs the publicity, but for very different reasons. it has everything you need, drama, passion, romance and some next level gut wrenching emotion wringing scenes . Grey and Ethan are definitely a couple that are just right for each other - from the beginning Ava Wilder was able to show their potential for chemistry and long term romance.
