About this deal

The separately available waterproof lens port makes it possible to use this lens for wide-angle photography underwater. It is however possible to use a raw converter that doesn’t necessarily apply corrections, such as DCRaw. Capture stunning images of nature in the raw without worrying about ocean spray, waterfalls or torrential downpours!

With really wide lenses like this, very distant features may not supply enough detail and thus start acting as if they're on low contrast subjects, but I never really encountered that problem.

The Olympus 7-14mm lens provides an equivalent of 14-28mm with a 2x crop MFT sensor camera, great for landscape or architectural photography. Built-in petal-type lens hood helps to alleviate stray light from causing flare and also adds some protection from accidental impacts to the front element. Before we get into the touchy feely bits, I want to share what I see as the pitfalls of this ultra wide lens (and to be fair all ultra wides).

Superb build quality combined with outstanding optical results mean we have a lens that can take on whatever we choose to throw at it. Late payment and early repayment penalties apply; full details of these will be provided in the loan agreement pack. It uses almost exactly the same design language, with a solid-feeling metal barrel and finely ridged metal zoom and focus rings.

The lens, together with the OM-D's built-in image stabilizer, allows you to take crystal-clear night shots from the palm of your hand. A Wide-angle 7-14mm zoom lens offers a 14-28mm equivalent focal length range for Micro Four Thirds digital cameras. Looking at uncorrected raw files this way, we see that the 7-14mm shows quite strong barrel distortion at wideangle, which progressively reduces to near-perfect correction at the 14mm position. but even to f/8—and pulling the focus point ever so slightly forward (towards the camera) if I wanted to achieve best possible landscape shooting results with this lens in the corners.I do feel that those still interested have circled the wagons to an extent and there are certainly some groups that are picking up momentum. But at the 7mm position the image becomes visibly more smeared towards the extreme corners of the frame, particularly wide open at f/2. I shot mainly with the E-M5 mark II during these past three weeks and I got used to it in the end but an optional landscape grip could be a good investment if it becomes your go-to lens. Looking for a lens that delivers unsurpassed image quality regardless of the photographic situation?
