The stories progress into deeper territory but I was in no way prepared for the level of ick I would feel when reading about the credit card Mosaic program and the targeted marketing done to try to bury the debt ridden further in debt. If you had read all of his books, you will find that some stories were repeated from books Out of the ordinary and What I do.

Usually I read Ronson on the plane while en route to some vacation destination—he makes for perfect travel reading.Though not all the topics were easy to read about, it's one of the first books in a while that I wanted to continue, so I will definitely be checking out his other collections. I can see why Ronson doesn't tell us this, though, because it rather hurts his continual suggestions that the sexual assaults must surely have been consensual and King must really only be guilty of a statutory crime, because King is so very personable. But this year I was looking for something I could leave on the table during my holiday break, to pick up briefly and leave off again without worrying about losing the narrative thread. When browsing the net, I now find myself reading an article, recognising Ronson's style and going into 'skim mode'. This book is a series of articles by journalist Ron Jonson, who I had no experience of before downloading this audiobook.

This book covers so many facets and people from all walks of life, it's hard to know where to begin.

Possibly the worst line in this book occurs when Ronson interviews a Haitian dishwasher named Frantz. Not a badly written book by any means, I just really couldn't force myself to care about the subject matter of a couple chapters. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. It's a soft voice, and Ronson exerts a gust of energy into each utterance before the phrase or sentence softens at the tail, resulting in oddly-placed emphases.

He seems to find special people and special circumstances and tells the story in around 15 pages which makes the book easy to drop in and out of. So I decided to journey across America to meet one of each multiple, to try to understand their financial lives and the vast chasms that separate them. Through the eyes of Maf we’re provided with an insight into the life of Monroe herself, and a fascinating take on one of the most extraordinary periods of the twentieth century. The award winning documentary maker Jon Ronson is fascinated by madness, extraordinary behaviour and the human mind.

I enjoyed the format of this book and the wide variety of subjects it covered although I did find the last section pretty tedious and also distinctly more serious/disturbing than the rest of the book! Always intrigued by our ability to believe the unbelievable, Jon meets the man preparing to welcome the aliens to earth, the woman trying to build a fully-conscious robotic replica of the love of her life and the "Deal or No Deal" contestants with a foolproof system to beat the Banker. He goes to a UFO convention in the Nevada desert with Robbie Williams, asks Insane Clown Posse (who are possibly America's nastiest rappers) whether it's true they've actually been evangelical Christians all along and rummages through the extensive archives of Stanley Kubrick. The question of why the boys "went back for more" is repeated over and over again in this chapter, but only as a means to cast doubt on the charges, and never as a genuine question to be explored by actual experts on the complexities of abuse and victimization.
