It should have been Luke - superhero expert and comic-lover - who was given superpowers and instructed to save two universes. If you had spent most of your 11 years on earth devouring comics and knew all there was to know about superheroes, their powers and arch enemies, wouldn t you be annoyed if your Maths nerd of an older brother was chosen to join their ranks? David Solomons debut children s book is lip-twitchingly funny and clips along thanks to a super-plot and a cast packed with special (if unusual) powers.

He was born in Glasgow and now lives in Dorset with his wife, the novelist Natasha Solomons, their son Luke and their daughter, Lara. His first feature film was an adaptation of 'Five Children and It' (starring Kenneth Branagh and Eddie Izzard, with gala screenings at the Toronto and Tribeca Film Festivals). Just when eleven-year-old Luke goes for a wee, his undeserving, geeky older brother meets aliens and gains SUPERPOWERS!

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. That even the smallest of things (like going off to have a wee) could make you lose the chance of fame and living with the richest of people. Rory Rooney is unremarkable in almost everything, apart from his capacity to attract the attention of the school bully. The anti-climactic thing is that the brother that doesn't like super heros becomes one and that makes me laugh.

For example I have also read my gym teacher is an alien when I read that as well as my brother is a superhero I laughed so hard I almost fell off my bed while reading. The two are going to have to team up if they’re to save Bromley (and the world) from certain disaster.bought as a jokey type present for a 13 year old who likes to read but doesn't always get along with his brother. As a parent I'm so grateful for exciting age appropriate books that keep kids faces buried in them while they get lost in what they are reading.

I would recommend the book to year eights and under as there are some hard word to read but most of the words are textbook. There are many other funny things about this book but this is just one thing you will enjoy about it.K.A Star Lad) doesn't like super heroes but is then made one by an alien ,the worst thing is he won't even wear a cape. I found it funny when Lara tells Zack that her sister Cara has a thing about capes so he puts it on! Lots of references to superheroes but you can enjoy the book without having extensive knowledge of this genre, although it’s frustrating that the reference to ‘14 fingers’ is never fully explained?

What it reminds me most of is the TV show 'The Flash' when Wally West is jealous of Jessie Quick when she gets the power of speed and he doesn'. It blends an exhaustive knowledge of fantasy fiction in books, film, television, comics and computer games (which works even for uninitiates) with a well-observed understanding of family relationships, sibling rivalry, friendships and the things that can be horrible about starting secondary school.Luke is massively annoyed about this, but when Zack is kidnapped by his arch-nemesis, Luke and his friends have only five days to find him and save the world. Waterstone's Children's Book Prize winner and perfect for fans of David Baddiel and David Walliams , this brilliantly funny middle grade series is the perfect read for children that love to laugh ages 8+! Be careful, though - there's a danger of actual tears and serious stomach-hurt from doubling-over with laughter. If you chose this fantastic book you will not regret it you would finish a page and wont to read it over and over again.
