Me like game. You will like game. Say word to make you get word. See? Good. Any game that comes with an inflatable club in it is already onto a winner. Poetry for Neanderthals is a word game take on other style word games with some interesting twists on the guessing formula. This story is also an example of game developers (some who spent most of their careers in video games) using their ingenuity to design around a big problem: We can’t hand physical cards to each other during online calls. Lee spoke about this challenge with Theresa Duringer of Temple Gates Games at our recent GamesBeat Summit 2020 event. Best friends bring Grok joy. Grok want Stonehenge too. Grok must have it all. Only Silent will not do. At the end of a turn, both teams add up the points they've earned on a piece of paper where each player's individual scores are kept. (The Poet and Guesser earn the same number of points each round).

Exploding Kittens also uses its physical card games as a trial for testing ideas of games that could eventually become global digital games, and so the innovation that it shows in its physical games can eventually affect the digital market. Exploding Kittens has also figured out a way that physical card games can compete with digital games during social isolation. Lee said that manufacturing the game during the pandemic has been extremely difficult. As demand grew, the company learned that its factories were a single point of failure, because they were inside China. You can immediately go for the three point phrase and ignore giving clues for the one point word. If your teammates end up providing the one point answer, you can tell them that they guessed the right word for one point. You can then use the one point word as part of the clue for the three point phrase. Skipping A Card The Poet also chooses which side of the cards (gray or orange) that the players will use during the game. All of the players will use this side of the card for the entire game. Once the timer runs out, the current round of Poetry for Neanderthals ends immediately. If you scored/lost points in the round, you will move the corresponding cards from the Poet Point Slate to the corresponding spots for your team on the Team Point Slate. During this round Team Glad scoring three points from the friend and up cards. They scored one point for the tooth card. Finally they lost one point each from the fork and tutor card. The players from Team Glad moved the cards from the Poet Point Slate to the corresponding sections on the Team Point Slate. While factories have started to resume manufacturing, the supply chain was still disrupted because many of the ports where the game was shipped were disrupted. During this time, Exploding Kittens had to figure out how to create the initial run of Poetry for Neanderthals. One of the challenges was that you had to have a long inflatable club to play the game while social distancing (when people can do it in person). So the company had to figure out how to manufacture the inflatable club and fit it in a box that was small enough to easily ship. Both players are on the same team and switch off being the Poet. Play with a single Point Slate. Any cards you skip count as -1 point. After each player has been the Poet three times, add up your points:

After your teammates successfully guess a word/phrase, you break one of the rules and are punished, or you skip the card; you will draw a new card from the draw pile. You will continue playing and drawing new cards until the timer runs out. End of Round Isle of Man, Isle of Wight, Northern Ireland and the Scottish Highlands) may take longer to reach you. Once you have a poet the timer is turned and they the poet starts giving clues to their team. The catch being that you can only use one syllable words - you are a cave person after all! If you use a word of more than one syllable the other teams can club you with the inflatable ‘NO’ club and you will lose points. You are allowed to say correct words once your team has said them though. So if the clue was sore eye and your team said ‘eye’ you could then start saying it too. Reciting the poem has no impact on the scoring or outcome of the game. Therefore it is completely optional. Variant GamesOnce the Poet starts describing the word/phrase, their teammates can start yelling out answers. There is no penalty for incorrect guesses, so you should try to yell out as many answers as possible. The words/phrases can be multiple syllables, so there is no punishment if a teammate says a multi-syllable word. If the Poet feels they were penalized incorrectly, they shout "WAIT!" and turn the timer on its side. Decide as a group if the challenge is valid. Then decide as a group what to do with the Poetry Card in question. They came up with this game at a conference,” Lee said. “They came up to me and they said, ‘Hey, we got this crazy idea. You have to describe a life experience, but you can only use single syllable words.’ We all sounded like we were cavemen in therapy or cavemen in a job interview. It was so ridiculous.” During the round the Poet is trying to get their teammates to guess as many words/phrases from the Poetry cards as possible. Describing the Word/Phrase Otherwise you can choose to try for the three point answer. If at any point you commit a penalty, you will lose the point you earned from the correctly guessed word.
