Only three years after a previous profile here's another one, although Jeremy Wilson extends the remit of a conventional biography to explore other aspects of Burton's incomparable cycling career. Fotheringham’s latest book does a stellar job of both laying out Burton’s achievements while also excavating her often conflicted personality. Alyson Rudd, chairwoman of the William Hill Sports Book of the Year award * The Times Best Sports Book of The Year * Jeremy Wilson provides a convincing case in his tribute to this elusive and remarkable figure -- Best Sport Books of the Year * The 42 * An incredible story about one of the nation's greatest-ever athletes that you probably haven't heard of - until now. This is an incredible book -- Gabby Logan A story with the ingredients that Hollywood would recognise .

TT national titles: 18 x 100miles, 23 x 50miles, 26 x 25miles and won the TT BBAR in 25 consecutive years from 1959-1983. Despite the inevitable similarities to another Burton biography, there is enough new material here for it to be an equally compelling proposition – so the same score is justified. You can imagine now, there would be psychological support to help someone transition away from that mindset. His book pays homage to the remarkable life of champion cyclist Beryl Burton, capturing her life through family, friends and fellow competitors to reveal an incredible story about one of the greatest cyclists of all time. In this comprehensive and thoughtful biography, Dustin Galer resurrects a lost story of dignity, advocacy, and triumph. It's not controversial to say that Beryl Burton was one of the most dominant athletes of all time – of either sex. Like, you can’t say women aren’t good at sport when some of them (like Beryl) could beat those amateur men (like she did for the 12 hour time trial, where she was the fastest for both men and women, and held the men’s record for 2 years).

But without this book - which is niche even by the standards of British sporting books - I doubt I’d ever have heard of her and imagine that’s true for many others. Our need for ritual is primordial, and embracing its logic can help us connect, find meaning and discover who we are.Fotheringham does a great job of evoking an era before sportives, mass-sponsorship and cheap overseas travel. With limited opportunities in mass-start racing in Britain, time-trialling became the forum for Burton’s talents. In my previous review I also mentioned that it's always hard to compare performances across different eras; however, in a prime example of what makes this book so different to a more conventional biography, Wilson has actually done exactly that. However, everything comes to us at the right time — and Jeremy Wilson’s biography on British cycling legend Beryl did just that. In his captivating book Dustin Galer delves into the inspiring journey of Beryl Potter, a prominent Canadian disability rights advocate.
