A review on TheaterMania wrote that "By play's end, the dialogue has devolved into baldly polemical statements; each actor is nothing more than a mouthpiece for a political position, and there is no sense of character remaining. The treatment Arthur Simpson receives from the UK's FCO regarding his UK citizeneship is all too believable - if the book had been set in 2021, it would probably be even worse!

His discriptions are great and it's easy to believe the motivations behind the various protagonists. A generation later comes Dirty Story, featuring disreputable Arthur Simpson, an Anglo–Egyptian, a lineage unlikely to generate success, a man who is perpetually stateless, often needing to get out of a country in a hurry. Beginning in 1936, he wrote a series of novels that introduced ordinary protagonists thrust into political intrigues they were ill prepared to deal with. The Arizona Daily Wildcat is the award-winning, student-managed and -produced news outlet serving the University of Arizona and greater Tucson since 1899.I was a pretty fair ranch hand and always used to think there wasn't much of anything I couldn't do. The fig tree is there, too, when war breaks out, when the capital is reduced to ashes and rubble, when the teenagers vanish. Eric Ambler began his career in the early 1930s and quickly established a reputation as a thriller of extraordinary depth and originality.

This is one of several novels by Ambler in which statelessness or the danger of becoming stateless (an exile, not a citizen of any country and unwelcome in all countries) features prominently in the plot. Like so many other things, their lives seemed to pass me by while I watched from roofs, ditches, or wherever I was working. He is like an unknown uncle of John le Carré and a missing brother of Graham Greene, having written so many immensely well readable novels with historical and political implications of his time, always in the form of a thriller. More bitter than the first Arthur Abdel Simpson novel, The Light of Day, this second book extends Simpson's story and has him become an unfortunate soldier of fortune in Africa. Do you feel weighed down by stress and pressure, held back by judgement and lack of opportunity, and critcised by everyone – including yourself?

Then she walks them through the writing process: how to get hot ideas, devise steamy plots, use language like a pro and bring the story to a memorable climax. There she is given the chance to undo her regrets and try out each of the other lives she might have lived.
