We're not going to judge people in terms of the amount of wealth they bring to the event," Burning Man founder Larry Harvey told The Guardian in 2015 in response to such complaints.

Made from lumber wrapped in plywood, the structure featured a series of fire elements that shot flames into the air. One is an open mind. The duke may look and speak like a duke but he has a subversive streak. Opening alongside Radical Horizons is an exhibition called Living With Art We Love, in which Chatsworth House will be decorated with the duke and duchess’s private collection of modern art: some more in keeping with the style of the house (a corridor of Lucian Freud’s portraits) than others (a series of retina-shredding Michael Craig-Martin prints). “I’m a bit nervous to be honest,” says the duke. “It’s a bit like exposing yourself.” There was a sea of people transfixed by Wings of Glory. They were coming up to me in tears, thanking me for it I spoke with artist Blake Marcus, and he tells me, "While speaking with what would eventually become our art crew at the burn last year (Blake Marcus, Seven, Chris Welch, Arsenio, Lindsay Milligan), we joked about how Burning Man had nearly everything. All that was missing was a live whale. We laughed and laughed; then we stopped to think about how we could bring this preposterous idea to the dust." News from Dezeen Events Guide, a listings guide covering the leading design-related events taking place around the world. Plus occasional updates. Dezeen Awards China According to New Mexico artist Christina Sporrong, "The idea of the Flybrary arose from how our thoughts are ours to emancipate, especially in a time where our actions can be severely limited. Our thoughts, dreams, and inner voice are autonomous, and if we let them rise, our creative ideas can solve the challenges we all face. By way of a fantastical library within a head I hope to encourage a thought- provoking space were relevant books can guide us to new ideas and innovation. Contemplation within a surreal setting and circumstance inspires new ways of seeing things, forging new neural pathways, expanding one's view from within to affect one's view without. We can all soar to this paradigm." The Flybrary is a 20-foot-tall steel head with book-like birds flying out of the top. The contemplative face is non-binary and a mixture of all races, colours, and creeds. The birds represent thoughts, the eyes looking up towards them thoughtfully. Sporrong captures the idea that contemplation within a surreal setting and circumstance inspires new ways of seeing things, expanding one’s view from within to affect one’s view without. Sourced completely from salvage, Paradisium was designed to represent a "comprehensive forest ecosystem" in the middle of the desert. Another brilliant interactive part of the exhibition is the wings of wind. Visitors can climb into the central circle and be slowly spun around. It feels super fun and makes for a really great photo. Mum by Mr & Mrs Ferguson Positioned deep in the desert away from the camps and not listed on the festival map, Titan was meant to reward those with a sense of adventure, according to the artist. Our added bonus with Bee or Not to Bee is that it is posed in just having landed on a 12-foot wide flower. The flower, like the bee, is delightful to touch as it is made up of over 40,000 glass toy marbles, 18 green petals, and a yellow center. At night, the marbles will pass light to illuminate the flower and the bee, softly glowing to invite participants in the experience." Stone 40 is similar to a previous work by the artist but newly imagined for the Chatsworth landscape. The stones used in this work were gathered from a quarry close to Chatsworth and were chosen to match the stones used to construct the house. The steel structure supporting the stones was fabricated in Benjamin’s Berlin studio and required 180m of welding to complete. Visitors will be able to climb up the ‘floating’ stones and explore the artwork. Stone 40 by Benjamin Langholtz and Amihay Gonon. Photography by Dan Adams What Burning Man community art pieces will be displayed at the event?

One man who attended Burning Man with a group of Silicon Valley entrepreneurs told The New York Times that they used to come with "R.V.s and precooked meals." Though, being honest, you get distracted at every corner and we missed so many places we’d planned to see. You see, you’ll meet incredible people who you’ll tag along with or recommend things to you and your plans will just change – it’s amazing. It's meant to be built and destroyed,” says Matteo Cantiello, an astrophysicist who in 2022 partially powered the camp he founded with solar. “It doesn't scale out in society. It's more like research and development for society and for technological solutions.”

Langholz will use locally quarried stone, like that which Chatsworth itself was built from, and it’s these connections that make Cook especially passionate about the project. “It’s easy to say, ‘Burning Man, naked people! Chatsworth, old England’,” she says. “But then you lose these layers of connection.” Cook adds: “There are a number of people, including the duke and duchess, who can see the future here and want to pull forward. But at the same time, all of us hold a responsibility for the tender hearts of those who might be a bit like, ‘What’s happening here?’”This piece explores an alternative Creation Myth, one that laments the human-animal separation and recognizes the sacredness and kinship to all lifeforms, past and present. Free to access and enjoy for all, the exhibition also benefited from a dedicated engagement programme working with communities of people who generally find Chatsworth hard to access, offering activities designed to leave a legacy of creative possibility and new connections with people. Participants were able to climb up the tower to interact with a set of ropes connected to 99 bells installed at the heights of the structure. Now, we have the craziest chefs in the world and people who build yurts for us that have beds and air-conditioning," he said. "Yes, air-conditioning in the middle of the desert!" The designers created a series of trees with graphic elements on the side. The tallest four served as perches for the participants, while small pods were included to provide further shade.
